At the end of the federal meeting of "We are Church", the association calls on the German bishops to obtain a special arrangement for Germany from the Pope. There is still resistance to fundamental reforms.
The association "We are Church" has called on German bishops to press the pope for the diaconate for women in Germany. For this purpose, the local bishops should obtain special permission from Pope Francis, the organization announced today, Sunday, at the conclusion of its federal assembly in Neustadt an der Weinstrabe, Germany.
Resistance to reforms of church power structures
This step should take place "already independently" of the reform process planned in Germany. The "still existing resistance against fundamental reforms in the church power structure" endangered "the so urgently needed renewal processes in the worldwide church crisis," the organization said.
After intense wrangling, the German bishops have agreed on a "binding synodal path" for the renewal of the church. The focus will be on the ies of power, church sexual morality, the lifestyle of priests and the role of women in the church. In this way, those responsible in Germany want to learn lessons from the abuse scandal and regain trust.

At the election of the federal team of "We are Church" Christian Weisner was confirmed in the office of spokesman, which he has held for a good 20 years. Gunther Doliwa, Sigrid Grabmeier, Susanne Ludewig and Magnus Lux were also re-elected for two years. Heinrich Mix from Hanover is a new member.
